model in front of waterfall - black and white

Spent a wonderful morning capturing waterfall tintype portraits with Amber. Wequiock Falls was so beautiful with just the right amount of water coming over – dramatic without being dangerous. Of course, the water was a bit chilly in the dark little gorge. But sometimes you have to suffer a little bit to make some nice images!

The bulk of our time together was spent capturing some amazing Tintype 8×10’s. You can see those images on my Victorian Photography website SunandSilver.photo After the tintype session we decided to have some fun with digital image. Just played around by the waterfall and made some digital art. I edited all these pictures in sepia tones in honor of the tintype session!

Surefooted, BAREfooted, and a bit brave, Amber posed behind the falls. The wind was roaring and water everywhere and we caught some beautiful images!

I pulled out my new 15-35mm f/2.8 lens at the end of our time together. This is usually considered a landscape lens because it is very wide angle. But it can also be a creative portrait lens with a little care. It is very important to keep your model as close to the center of the frame as possible to avoid distortion. For this set we posed with the camera facing directly into the sun. This caused a lot of flare in the lens along with beautiful sunstars. Rules are made to be broken!
