We did a some digital portraits after a recent tintype test session. TLKonfire (also know as Tia) is a Fox Valley Wisconsin fire artist and sat for this series of impromptu portraits. We didn’t really plan this set and I used a monolite strobe with a softbox to back light Tia during some fun poses. Through clever, and mostly fortuitous, manipulation of the exposure and flash level we ended up with some amazing cinematic images.

Our first image, let’s call it “Artist with Firefly”, is an amazing silhouette of Tia with her hair and outline glowing from the light. You do see the firefly, don’t you?

Our next set is full of sass and attitude in a setup meant to evoke the full moon.

TLKonfire is strong and fierce – playing with fire takes a lot of strength and you have to conquer your fears. This is one of our best images, there is so much going on here. Taken near the end of the practice, Tia’s pose and her fist tell a hundred stories. She may be tired, and covered in ashes, but still ready for a fight!

Tia’s last pose was deserving of some composition fun! So many potential treatments and I settled on a light filled image for the first and a more dark and mood image for the second. Which is your favorite?
