The flagpole in Riverside Park, Neenah. Grey Winter day and I was not seeing much to photograph so here is what I came up with.
The flagpole in Riverside Park, Neenah. Grey Winter day and I was not seeing much to photograph so here is what I came up with.
Pine needles in the snow by 8 foot falls. There are a couple of things to notice in this picture. First, the water has a nice silkyness. This is achieved by setting a slow shutter speed which blurs the movement of the water. I took this in manual mode and set the ISO to 100 and an f/16 aperture to both limit the light and to get a good depth of field. The shutter speed was set to 1/5 of a second which indicated an overexposure of about 1 stop. Why the overexposure? The camera sees the world as grey…
It may be cold outside but the sun still is warm as it streams through our kitchen. A quick portrait in "high key". High key is when the histogram is skewed to brighter so that there is essentailly no black in the picture and the luminance is very high across all colors. I took this photo in aperture mode and set my camera to overexpose by 1 2/3 stops. This blew out the sunlit kitchen to the right but also allowed for a proper exposure of her face. If I had let the camera meter the scene the background would…
January has been an adventure! Rain, warm, snow and bitter cold. Woke up this morning to 27 degrees after below zero all week. Fog everywhere. Took this on my way to work this morning. Some ice shoves on Lake Winnebago along with some thin patches from the rain. Fog obscures the opposite shore. Canon 5d mkIII | Canon 16-35 f/4 L | 16mm @ f/13 | 1/320 sec | ISO 1000 You can check this photo out on my 500px.com Page https://500px.com/photo/136273295/foggy-january-by-jalan-lee
A special day at St. Mark's because we had a wedding vow renewal. Fifteen years and still so in love! We did this portrait right after church. The light coming into the windows was so nice. I added a flash bounced off the side wall of the church to fill in the shadows. To get the balance between flash and ambient correct I shot in manual mode and set my shutter speed to 1/100 sec and aperture to f/5.6 to get the dept of field. I then metered the scene and set the ISO to 640. Flash was set on…
Another macro with the new Canon 100mm lens. The first photo is the original and the bottom photo is a zoomed in picture. The detail is just stunning! In fact, it might be too sharp as you can see every little flaw in the paint and every speck of dust. Note to self: blow off all macro subjects from now on to remove dust my eyes cannot see!
A new year and a new lens. My new Canon 100mm f/2.8 IS USM L Macro lens arrived and I am getting to know it. Wow! This lens is sharp! The stabilization works really well and allows for a lower ISO handheld (which gives lower digital noise). I "lost" my macro lens when I sold my beloved Canon 7D and am really happy to have that capability back. What is a macro lens you ask? Simply, it is a lens that allows you to get really close so you can make small things magnified in the picture. The…
Nora enjoys New Years Eve on our bed. Nothing beats a kitten for hours of pure entertainment. Taken with the Canon 5d with Canon 24-105mm L lens. 1/6s at f/5.0 aperture. I used a bit of fill flash bounced off the back wall and ceiling to give some detail to her eyes and face.
One of the benefits of my life is a get to travel; one of the miserable things about my life is I have to travel a lot! Sometimes I get a few moments to take some pictures. It has been really wet this Fall and early Winter in Oregon and my last trip was no exception. It rained continuously from the moment I arrived until I was 30 minutes from the airport on the way home. I took the opportunity to visit a place I had never been before - Wahclella Falls. The trail follows the river for about 1…
The sun comes up over Lake Winnebago. A 30 minute time lapse using my home built video slider. Sunrise over the Pond from Jalanlee on Vimeo.
Some Wedding fun from last year. We made this video to show at the reception. When the couple was introduced at the start of the reception we announced they were late then showed the video. The Couple came into the hall at the end of the video and the crowd went wild! Maria and Chase are Late from Jalanlee on Vimeo.
Lake Winnebago has no ice yet and it is hard to see how there will be enough for Spearing season in just over a month. Things have a way of catching up so you never know. This photo was taken as the first real Winter storm of the season was bearing down on the Fox Valley. I used my Canon 5d MKIII with the Canon 16-35mm f/4 lens. Aperture was f/20 to get as much in focus as possible. The IS system really paid off as my hands were shaking from the bitter wind. Edited in Lightroom 6 to give…

The 2nd day of January and so many things to be thankful for! We watch the news and go so riled up we think the world is about to end - but it has always been that way! Right now we have more prosperity than any time in history. Hunger and want are at the lowest level ever. Spiritually I think we are in the beginning of a new awakening. Yes, there are problems. There always are and it is our responsibility to do what we can to make things better. But don't let that stop us from thanking God…
The oven is done and the pizza parties have begun! Below is a video of the whole process boiled down to a few minutes. Our Pizza Oven from Jalanlee on Vimeo.
The Super moon was on July 13th but clouds blocked. I shot this on July 14th so still pretty nice. Just working with my new camera slider rail. The hardest part is getting the exposure set so the video is not too light in the beginning and not too dark at the end.
A huge solar disturbance caused the Aurora to be visible from Neenah last night.
Seems like there are way too many Traffic signs in Neenah. So on a quiet Sunday I decided to take a bike ride and capture a picture of each sign on the route of my morning work commute. I drive about 3.5 miles and around 6-8 minutes depending on traffic. An hour and a half later I was at work and just plain tired ! I had intended to take pictures both ways (both sides of the road) but ran out of energy. There are over 250 signs on my way to work (so maybe 500 total both ways). Forget…
I saw these leaves blowing around by the cathedral in Ieper and found them to be beautiful! Ieper Leaves from Jalanlee on Vimeo.
Just a short test run of my new home made video rail. Everything worked out pretty well. The moon disappeared as the stormy weather moved in. More videos to come! Before The Storm from Jalanlee on Vimeo.
Pastor Phil was out guest vocalist this Sunday in worship. Here is his rendition of Shine Like The Sun. Shot with Canon 7D and processed with Premiere Pro CS5 and After Effects. Shine Like The Sun from Jalanlee on Vimeo.
We went to see "Wifee and The Huzz Band" at the Neenah Art in The Park on Sunday. Cool band! They have a 1962 Cadillac decked out in a sinister style. Kind of like the death car in Animal House. The chihuahua was a lot friendlier than he looks! Click on any image to view full size.
St. Mark's hosted a 24 hour prayer vigil starting at noon on Good Friday. There was continuous prayer during this time in the sanctuary. We also had a number of people praying from their homes. Prayers were said for our church and the world, people suffering illness and for peace. Some people prayed for the entire church membership. After the vigil we sat down to record some of our thoughts and experiences. Following is a short version of what happened - longer version to come later.
