The first collodion portrait pop up of the year is fast approaching. I still have a some openings on May 21 and 22 – contact me at jeff@jalanlee.com to book a time!

Important Notes for the Popup

All sessions will be outdoors – tintype collodion requires a lot of light for a good portrait. We have a 1 acre yard with lots of good places to take photos.

The address is 676 Dartmouth Drive, Neenah. See in Google Maps. I am about 2 miles west of Hwy 41 (1 mile west of County Road CB). If you are coming from Hwy 41 use the Main Street exit. The Intersection of CB and Winneconne is closed! Tullar Road is a good OK detour from Winneconne.

All sessions will be about an hour.

We will do at least two 8×10 plates. These will be tintypes (on metal).

Wardrobe / Clothing – Wet plate is monochrome (black and silver white). Best to avoid busy patterns or stripes in your clothing, so think sold colors and simple. Collodion renders colors a bit different, so here is how colors show up:

White = White

Black = Black

Blue = Light from white to light grey

Green = dark grey to black

Orange = black

Red = dark grey to black

Here is a color wheel photo to give you some guidance:

The Process

We will set up the location and poses

I will get the camera adjusted and focused

You get to chill for about 5-6 minutes while I go into the darkroom to get a plate ready

Final focus and pose check, put the plate in the camera and take the picture

It will take 3-5 seconds to get the picture so you will need to hold as still as possible for this time!

Back to the dark room to develop the picture – less than 5 minutes

I will bring the picture out into the light and you can watch the image emerge in the “fixing” bath

The picture goes into the rinse and we can setup for another picture!

We should be able to shoot at least 2 plates and maybe a 3rd. You get to keep your favorite as a thank you for posing.

The pictures will be coated with a lilac and Frankincense varnish to protect them. They will need about 24 hours to dry and harden. So You can either pick up your plate the next day or I will mail it to you.

So that’s it – any questions just drop me a text or email!
